Superintendent's Update

Perkins Local Schools was fortunate to host the Preparing Ohioans for Success Roundtable featuring state, regional and local education and business leaders. Paolo DeMaria, State Superintendent of Public Instruction; John Carey, Chancellor of Higher Education; Ryan Burgess, Director, Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation; and Cynthia Dungey, Director, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; Dr. Eugene Sanders, CEO and Superintendent of Sandusky City Schools; Dr. Andrew Kurtz, Dean, BGSU Firelands; and Abbey Bemis, Executive Director, Erie County Economic Development Corporation discussed how our students can be prepared for the 21st century workplace and the changes in store for their future.

As we are in direct contact daily with our students, we understand the importance of teaching all stakeholders that they are leaders, designers, risk-takers and connectors in any field they choose. This is why we designed a Perkins “Personalized Learner’s Profile.” Our learning environment supports a strong and healthy identity so our children are equipped with a high self-esteem, strong critical thinking skills and the ability to self-reflect that transfers to being a productive citizen.

With the support of The Ohio State University and PAST Foundation, our faculty think-tank is launching a design lab with a Career Connectionsapproach. At the elementary and middle schools, we are expanding our curricula to provide students with the abilities to develop transferable or work-related skills that can be applied to a number of occupations. Examples of these skills are: adhering to deadlines, motivating a team, persuading, or decision-making.

Several groups of students from various grade levels presented examples of projects demonstrating these skills and our success in applying theory to practice.

Please enjoy the photos below showing our speakers and students presenting to our distinguished guests.
