During this holiday season, we take much pride in the kindness, generosity, selflessness and sense of community modeled by our students as they spearheaded and contributed to numerous charitable events and drives. Students in all four buildings donated and volunteered in projects big and small, raising funds and providing holiday cheer and needed items to community members.
Our PHS Boys Basketball team was recognized in the Sandusky Register for adopting a local family and raising over $800, collecting a donation of new tires and a turkey dinner to brighten their holidays. The Pirates for Peers Charity Volley Bro Match raised $670 for Victory Temple Kitchen and VOA Crossroads Homeless Shelter. A “Giving Tree” filled 4 large boxes hats, gloves, scarves and socks for families attending Christmas dinner at the Victory Temple Kitchen for Christmas dinner and to those currently living in the VOA Homeless Shelter.
Donations from students and staff to Ohgo’s Project Happy filled more than 350 boxes! In addition, students were instrumental in purchasing and writing personal messages on greeting cards created by local resident Heather Bodle for veterans and also to accompany the Project Happy boxes when delivered to children. This is just a small sampling of many donations our students made, including to other Perkins families in need and the Volunteers of America Christmas Cheer.
These acts of kindness by our students inspire and encourage us in our mission. Education is more than the subject matter we teach our youth in the classroom. One of our Core Beliefs is to nurture stakeholders to share in our school culture and to give back to the community. Our students are a shining light of compassion and empathy, and embody our hope for the future.
We wish you all the joys of the season and happiness throughout the coming year!
