First Days Of 2020-2021

Perkins Schools To Use Staggered Start
Posted on 08/17/2020
Perkins Local School District will use a staggered approach to begin the 2020-2021 school year.

At Perkins High School and Briar Middle School, teachers and staff will meet with students over the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 4 to introduce students to revised and enhanced safety protocols, as well as operational and technology changes due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Furry Elementary and Meadowlawn Intermediate teachers and staff will use the weeks of Aug. 31-Sept. 4 and Sept. 8-Sept. 11 to meet with students.

The staggered starts in all four buildings does NOT include students who have opted into the Online-Only Option.

Perkins High will follow this schedule for the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 4
• Monday, Aug. 31: Grades 9-10, Last names A-K report to school
• Tuesday, Sept. 1: Grades 9-10, Last names L-Z report to school
• Wednesday, Sept. 2: Deep cleaning day, no students report
• Thursday, Sept. 3: Grades 11-12, Last names A-K report to school

• Thursday, Sept. 3: Grade 7 report to school
• Friday, Sept. 4: Grade 8 report to school

In-person, 5-day-a-week, lessons begin for Perkins High and Briar Middle schools on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Meadowlawn Intermediate will follow this schedule:
On Monday, Aug. 31, Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Thursday, Sept. 3 (Wednesday, Sept. 2, will be a deep cleaning day), there will be opportunities for parents and students to meet teachers in a smaller group setting, as well as have an opportunity to educate themselves with Google Classroom, Zoom meetings, and School Messenger.

Parents and students will also become acclimated with expectations. This will be done by scheduling a 90-minute meeting with each individual family to attend. Meadowlawn staff will send information on Tuesday to families about the sign up for appointments, and the scheduling will take place this week.

Students will report to school for one full day between Friday, Sept. 4, and Friday, Sept. 11. This will give students and teachers the opportunity to bond, take a safety tour of the school, receive supplies and textbooks, and conduct beginning-of-the-year assessments.

• Friday, Sept. 4: Last names S-Z
• Tuesday, Sept. 8: Last names A-F
• Thursday, Sept. 10: Last names G-L
• Friday, Sept. 11: Last names M-R

All Meadowlawn students, except those who are in the Online-Only Option, will attend classes five days a week beginning Monday, Sept. 14.

Furry Elementary will follow this schedule:
Furry teachers will coordinate and schedule one-on-one orientation sessions with all students and their families during the week of August 31. The sessions will include screenings and meetings with families while ensuring safety protocols. These sessions are limited to two adults and one child per classroom so that no more than five adults are in the classroom at a time unless you have multiple children in the same grade level.

Parents and guardians can expect to hear from their child’s teacher via email on Friday, Aug. 21.

Children will be assigned a day during the week of Tuesday, Sept. 8, to attend school in a small group setting so that safety protocols and procedures can be thoroughly taught to our youngest Perkins Pirates.

All Furry students, except those who are in the Online-Only Option, will attend classes five days a week beginning Monday, Sept. 14.
