The Briar Middle School’s 7th Grade Power of the Pen team captured First Place in the annual District Power of the Pen Tournament hosted virtually from Tiffin Middle School on February 5.
Nineteen schools participated in the tournament, with 80 7th grade writers and 71 8th grade writers. Briar had teams of 7th and 8th graders in the competition.
The 7th Grade members are Tavi Dillender, Charlotte Kessler, Ian Krecic, Lucy Miller, Madalayna Toccaceli, and Zoe Tomasula. Tavi Dillender placed 5th overall; Lucy Miller placed 9th; and Madalayna Toccaceli placed 10th.
For the 8th Grade team, Brianne Bucher placed 8th.
Qualifying writers will now advance to the regional competition, to be held virtually at Lourdes University on March 12.
The Power of the Pen competition is an interscholastic creative writing program that challenges students to write prose based on prompts and within a time limit.
