Three Briar Middle School 8th graders recently swept the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sally DeForest Chapter essay contest by winning all three places in the grades 5-8 division of the contest.
Ryan Schnurr took first place with his essay titled, “The Wake of War.” Jordyn Brunner won second place with her essay, “Experiencing the Second Continental Congress,” and Titus Normington-Slay won third with his essay, “The Road to Revolution.” (To read their essays, click on the hyperlinked titles.)
The students wrote their original essays in response to the prompt:
The Second Continental Congress met from May 10, 1775-March 1, 1781, and included delegates from all colonies. The Congress was instrumental in shaping what was to become the United States of America. Imagine that you are a delegate during the 1775-1776 Second Continental Congress. Which colony are you from, and what will be important for your colony?
Ryan, as the winner, will present his essay at the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sally DeForest Chapter meeting and luncheon on January 14. In addition, his essay will now advance to the regional competition.
