Briar Middle School 7th grader Annaliese Rogers was crowned Regional Champion at the Power of the Pen Regional Writing Tournament held virtually on Saturday, March 20.

Annaliese also received the Platinum Pen award and publication in the 2021 Power of the Pen Book of Winners for her story, "Nervous Beauty."

Another Briar 7th grader, Brianne Bucher, also placed 10th in the tournament.

The tournament, held virtually from Lourdes University, included 26 schools with 68 7th grade writers and 77 8th grade writers.

Annaliese and Brianne, as well as Addyson Smith, Chloe Carr, Eve Hartley, and Keira Geiger, now qualify for the Otterbein University State Power of the Pen tournament, which will be held virtually on May 15.

The Power of the Pen competition is an interscholastic creative writing program that challenges students to write prose based on prompts and within a time limit.

Briar teacher Mary Darr coaches the 7th Grade team and Danielle Moody coaches the 8th Grade team.
