Briar 6th Graders Venture To Old Woman Creek For STEAM Trip
Students in the 6th Grade STEAM class at Briar Middle School spent Tuesday getting their hands dirty in the field.
They visited Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve, where they tested and collected data on the water's oxygen, PH, phosphate, and nitrate levels. The preserve uses the data to track the health of Lake Erie and the waterway.
The students, in Mrs. Amy Didion's 6th Grade science class, hiked around the preserve to see the advantages of wetlands and what it means to be an estuary. They also participated in a scavenger hunt at the visitor center and identified animals based on fur pelts and skulls.
The day ended with time to explore the beach, where they found sea glass, fossils, and zebra mussels – and had a great rock skipping contest.
