Briar 8th Grade Trip Set For Nation's Capital

Briar Middle School 8th graders have a new destination for their spring trip – the nation’s capital.

On Wednesday, July 12, the Perkins Local Schools Board of Education approved the Briar 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C., for May 8 to 10, 2024.

The trip is a shift from previous years, when the 8th graders went to the nation’s birthplace – Philadelphia.

The planned itinerary for the busy three-day trip includes stops at Gettysburg on the way to Washington, and then stops at Lafayette Park for a photo opportunity at the White House and the Martin Luther King Jr., Roosevelt, and Jefferson memorials.

The students will also visit the Capitol Building and the National Mall to visit the Smithsonian’s Natural History, American History, and African American History Museums. They also will stop at the Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam and World War II memorials.

On the way home from Washington, the students will stop at the Flight 93 Memorial in Pennsylvania.

The quoted price for the trip is $562 per student, with four students in a Hyatt Place hotel room for two nights in Herndon, Va. The price includes transportation via motor coach, meals, and admission to all attractions visited during the trip.

Nowak Tours, the Valley City, Ohio tour company organizing the trip, also will provide private nighttime security at the hotel.
