Dr. Rivera Begins Tenure At Perkins Schools
Dr. Lonny Rivera opened the next chapter of his career today, Wednesday, April 24, as the deputy superintendent of Perkins Local School District. He will serve as deputy superintendent until August 1, when he will become Perkins Schools’ next superintendent.
The Perkins Schools Board of Education on Monday modified his contract to begin his time at the district earlier than anticipated. The move also enables Dr. Rivera to work with outgoing Superintendent Todd Boggs for an extended transition period.
Eric Lapata, president of the Board of Education, called it the “greatest possible scenario.”
“Mr. Boggs and Dr. Rivera know each other and are friends,” Mr. Lapata said. “This is a unique opportunity where they can work together for the next couple of months to make Perkins Schools the best possible district.”
Dr. Rivera, who served as the Director of Innovation for North Point Educational Service Center in Sandusky, stepped down from that position to enable him to begin at Perkins Schools. Meanwhile, Mr. Boggs will continue as superintendent through the end of his contract on July 31.
Mr. Boggs has served as superintendent for six years. He announced his retirement last school year.
In addition to his time at North Point Education Service Center, Dr. Rivera was a special education teacher for Toledo Public Schools, a principal for Maumee City Schools and Oregon City Schools, Superintendent of Oregon City Schools and interim Superintendent of Public Instruction for the state of Ohio.
He is an advocate for the transformative power of public education and is dedicated to working collaboratively to foster an innovative educational environment to ensure every students’ success.
