Perkins Athletic Director To Depart

Perkins High School Athletic Director Ted Sturzinger Jr. will leave the district at the end of his contract on July 1 to take an administrative position at Vanguard Sentinel Career School in Fremont. Mr. Sturzinger has been PHS Athletic Director since August 2020.

“Mr. Sturzinger will be difficult to replace,” said Todd Boggs, superintendent of Perkins Local Schools. “He has completely rebuilt the Perkins High School athletic program over the past three years, and all our athletic teams have enjoyed great success because of his hard work. We wish him all the best at Vanguard.”

During his tenure, Mr. Sturzinger recruited new varsity coaches for several teams, including football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, and softball, and strength and conditioning coach Sam Wentz. He also led the effort to replace the turf and track in Firelands Health Stadium at PHS.

Mr. Sturzinger’s resignation will be presented to the Perkins Board of Education at its next regular meeting on Wednesday, July 12. In the meantime, the Athletic Director’s position has been posted, and the district is currently accepting applications.

Mr. Sturzinger graduated from Perkins High School in 1996, and he previously taught science, reading and language arts, and health at Briar Middle School from 2008 to 2018. Prior to coming to PHS, he had been an assistant principal at Fremont Middle School.
