Perkins Board Hires Treasurer

Perkins Board Hires Treasurer

The Perkins Local School District Board of Education on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, unanimously voted to hire assistant Treasurer Mike Spafford as treasurer for the district. The Board gave him a two-year contract that took immediate effect.

Mr. Spafford has served as assistant treasurer under Perkins Schools’ interim treasurer Betty Schwiefert since February. Ms. Schwiefert’s contract ended with the hiring of Mr. Spafford as treasurer.

Board President Eric Lapata said that Mr. Spafford has transitioned well into the school district’s treasurer’s office.

“We’re thrilled to have him in the district,” Mr. Lapata said. “He's doing a fantastic job.”

Prior to coming to Perkins Schools, Mr. Spafford was a senior advisor for the firm of Sudsina & Associates LLC, for whom he advised public entities on issuing municipal bonds, and provided financial forecasting, planning, and budgeting. He previously served in multiple administrative positions for the city of Huron.

Mr. Spafford graduated from the University of Dayton with a master’s degree in public administration, and from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is a graduate of Huron High School and now lives in Perkins Township.

Mr. Spafford succeeds Dan Bowman, who retired as treasurer in September. Mr. Bowman had been treasurer since May 2016.
